SPADE was conceived at a time in India when a serious platform to voice ones opinion on various issues of architecture and its allied fields was largely absent. As a journal on architectural deliberations in the country, SPADE aims to provoke thought and inspire aspirations towards a fine architecture; to be able to initiate dialogue without necessarily being conclusive.

"The essays in SPADE are not instructive, nor simply narrative, nor offer solutions but hope to invoke a beginning. A beginning to look at ourselves with a keener eye to evaluate, to begin to be able to pause and think where we are headed; and what exactly we seek to gain in this rampant frenzy of mindless construction that now overrides the nation."
